Zur Person (alle Rechte beim Verfasser - Name und Adresse des Genealogen sind dem Webmaster bekannt):
Obwohl mich das Schiff Boston, das von Rotterdam über Cowes nach Amerika gekommen sein soll, völlig verwirrt hat, da es sonst wohl nicht existiert, bin ich zu folgendem Ergebnis gekommen. Die Sicherheit setze ich mit etwa 80% an. Um auf 100% zu kommen müsste man im Geburtsort überprüfen, ob die fragliche Person wirklich nach 1764 nicht mehr dort auftaucht. Ebenso könnte man dort die weiteren Ahnen und endlich die genaue Herkunft ermitteln.
Nach dem ich 7 versprechende Ahnenreihen verfolgt und verworfen habe, ergibt sich ein Henricus Spor, geboren am 29. Dezember des Jahres 1741 in Forbach an der Mosel, als der gesuchte Vorfahre. Forbach war 1764 vermutlich deutsch, gehörte eventuell zum Herzogtum Lothringen und wurde von Christian IV. von Zweibrücken regiert.
Interessant könnte vielleicht auch noch sein, dass der Ururgroßvater von General Eisenhower (Johan Philip Eisenhauer) ebenfalls aus diesem Forbach stammt.
Weitere Vorgehensweise:
Da sich aus der reinen "Fernkommunikation" mit Zentralarchiven, Heimatverbänden und Privatpersonen nicht mehr ermitteln lässt, gibt es eigentlich nur die Möglichkeiten, dass jemand nach Forbach fährt, oder ich einen Umweg mache, wenn ich dort einmal in der Nähe sein sollte, was natürlich wieder lange dauern kann. Von sog. professionellen Geneaologen, die im Auftrag vor Ort ermitteln, halte ich nicht viel, da Ihnen meist der "letzte Einsatzwille" über die Rechnung hinaus fehlt.

Even though I was left thoroughly bewildered by the ship Boston, which
supposedly traveled from Rotterdam via Cowes to America, but otherwise seems
not to have existed, I have reached some conclusions.  I would rate my
certainty level at about 80%.  To reach 100% confidence would require
searching through records in the place of origin to see whether the person
in question actually fails to appear after 1764.  Similarly, one could
determine further ancestry there and ultimately trace the entire origin for
the clan.  After tracing and discarding seven promising ancestry lines I
have come up with one Henricus Spor, born on December 29, 1741, in Forbach
on the Mosel, as the sought-after ancestor.  Forbach was presumably German
in 1741, possibly belonging to the Duchy of Lorraine, ruled by Christian IV
of Zweibrücken.  It might also be of interest that the
great-great-grandfather of General Eisenhower (Johan Philip Eisenhauer) also
came from this town of Forbach.

Next steps:
Since there is not much more that can be learned by long-distance
communication with central archives, ancestral societies and private
parties, the only real remaining possibilities are for somebody to travel to
Forbach, or for me to make a side trip through there some time when I'm in
the vicinity, which might not be for some time.  I do not care much for
so-called professional genealogists who accept an on-site research
assignment, but somehow lose their motivation for any follow-through once
the bill is paid.
